Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

On the watch the titles website there is a lot to see. The website allows you to research plenty of title sequences. Their library of films was also pretty decent. They even had T.V. shows and video games. The website had a pleasing design. The website provided many different movies to learn from. And was worth spending your time scrolling through the options.
However, I'm not sure I prefer it over the art of the title. Yes it has a nice interface, but I didn't like it more than the other one. I also don't really like how they organized their catalog of movies. I felt they could have given you an easier way to list them. I could use the website if there's a movie I can't find on the other one. I think I will be using the other website more than watch the titles. The options art of the title provides will help when researching. However, there is still a lot of stuff to learn from this website.

Title Research: Art of The Title Website

On the art of the title website, there is a lot to appreciate. They have a fairly large catalog of movies. The website also has T.V. shows and the latest movies. The website also has a nice user-friendly interface. I'm looking at the website because there is a lot it could teach me. What I learned from the website is that there are many creative ways to make a title sequence. There are also many important aspects that go into the titles.
The website is an easy place to find title sequences. They carry a wide range of movies and T.V. You can also list the movies in order of the year they came out. This allows you to see the evolution of titles over time. The website makes it very easy to learn about the art of titles. It also makes it fun to look at these titles. Having all these movies in one place makes it easy to learn about titles. Otherwise, you would have to look for them on your own.

Genre Research: Jurassic World

The last movie I'm analyzing is Jurassic world. The theme with all of these movies is that they are big-budget and showy. The first category I'm analyzing is the camera angles, movements, and shots. The most common shots from the movie tracking shots. This happened when the dinosaur were chasing everybody. Other angles and shots were aerial and long shots. There were a lot of camera movements. The most memorable were the panning shots
The second category to analyze is the Mis-en-scene of the film. The costumes weren't that memorable. The lighting was mostly from daylight. The actors of the world were new and needed to be established. Makeup was not common and in a memorable way. The film relied more on CGI. Props showed up a lot too for the most part.
Common sound within the film was mostly non-diegetic. This is because it had to be added to the film. The most common editing used was cross-cutting. Elements of the genre that were included were lore and story-telling. Although, the world was set up by prior films. The element I liked was the compelling story. Elements I disliked was the pacing of the film.

Genre Research: Avatar

The third film I'm analyzing is Avatar. This is the first film I'm analyzing that doesn't have previous titles. The first category I'm analyzing is camera angles, movements, and shots. Common angles and shots include aerial and establishing shots. This is because the camera would often be filming these vast landscapes. The most common movements were pans. This would happen when the camera panned across these expansive locations.
Secondly, I'm going to analyze Mis-en-scene. There weren't that many memorable costumes. Most of the movie was CGI. Although, the lighting was quite memorable. Most of the film had bright daylight. The main actors in the film were relatively few. Most of them were pretty much also unknown to me. Since most of the film was CGI, makeup isn't much to talk about. There also weren't too many many memorable props.
The common sound of the film was non-diegetic. This is because most of the sound had to be added since it was a CGI film. Common editing used was cross-cutting and jump cuts. This is because there was a lot of information that needed to be established. Elements of the adventure genre that were in the film were world-building. The element I liked was the bright expansive world. The elements I disliked was the exposition.

Genre Research: Star Wars The Force Awakens

Most adventure films are big-budget and very showy. Which is why I landed on this as my next film to analyze. The first category I'm going to analyze is the camera angles, movements, and shots. Common camera angles included were long and aerial shots. This came when filming Rey on Tatooine. Common camera movements were pans and zooms. For example when they had the flying scenes. Common camera shots from the filming were long shots. These came when they had to establish the atmosphere of a location.
The second category to analyze is common Mis-en-scene. Costumes were very important in the film. this is because of all the new characters and already established characters. Lighting in the film was also very important to establish the atmosphere. For example when Kylo Ren encounters Han Solo on the catwalk. Actors in the film was also an important aspect. This is because there were a lot of returning characters. Makeup was another important aspect of the film. At least when they weren't using CGI. Props also played a huge role. This world had already established paraphernalia.
The common sound of the film was mostly non-diegetic. This is because it had to be added in. The common editing of the film was cross-cutting. This is because so many worlds needed to be established. An element of the film was the rich world. The elements I liked were the lore and the story of the world. The element I disliked was the extended action.

Genre Research: Avengers Endgame

The first movie of the adventure genre I would like to analyze is Avengers endgame. When looking up movies of the genre most were superhero films. I decided to do Avengers endgame because I watched it most recently. The first category to analyze are the camera angles, movements, and shots. The most common shots I remember were establishing shots. This makes sense since there are a lot of areas and worlds you need to get familiar with. Other angles and shots were aerial and long shots. These follow the same trend and purpose. There were a lot of camera movements. The most memorable were the pans.
The second category to analyze is the Mis-en-scene of the film. This was a lot. Costumes were plentiful for obvious reasons, it was a superhero movie, their suits are iconic to the film and the world they're in. The lighting was different in almost every location they were in. This was important for establishing an atmosphere in each place. The actors of the world were long-established and helped the story develop. There were also many actors to boot. Makeup was common and in use to create the characters. Although the film relied more on CGI. Props were also everywhere to be seen since they are also very important to the characters and the world they're in.
Common sound within the film was mostly non-diegetic since they had to be added to the film. Since the world and locations, they were in were mostly fabricated by CGI. the most common editing used was probably cross-cutting. This is because they were switching between worlds and locations so much. Elements of the genre that were included were the rich world they inhabited and the lore and story-telling. The thing is though this was developed across multiple films. Like I said in my previous blog the element I enjoyed was the immersive world. The story you were watching was very enveloping. Elements I disliked was that so much was going on in the story that it was hard to keep track.

Genre of My Film

In my previous blog, I briefly discussed the genre of my film. Although, I am not for certain what it would be categorized under. What I landed on was the adventure genre. This seemed to be the best fit. I landed on adventure because when I thought of my film I thought of the conventions of the genre. This included the camera angles, editing, and Mis-en-scene. So, I concluded it was the best choice.

Genre Research Blog: Two more genres

Besides the drama genre, there are two more genres I would like to talk about. The horror and adventure genre. I can't really make out what the film I decided on would be categorized under. But I think the adventure genre is the closest I could come to. I also decided on researching the horror genre just in case I decide to go in that direction. It also wouldn't hurt to implement some aspects of the genre when filming. The first thing I would like to discuss about the genres are the common camera angles. Common camera angles in the adventure genre include aerial, long, and tracking shots. These shots are used to immerse the viewer in the world the characters are exploring.
Common Mis-en-scene of the adventure genre includes costumes, makeup, and props. I would these are the most important mis-en-scene in the adventure genre. This is because they are very important when building a character you want someone to get immersed by in the world they're exploring. Common editing techniques used in the adventure genre include cross-cutting, graphic-match, and jump cuts. All of these techniques are used to establish smooth transitions between places in the world of the film. Elements of the adventure genre include storytelling, lore, and a rich world. Elements of the genre I like are those very things, I like how you get invested in the world. Then there is the stuff I dislike. Elements of the genre I dislike arise from the very same things, it may get a bit taxing depending on how much you need to invest.
Common camera angles of the horror variety include close-ups, eye-level shots, and dutch angles. These are used to induce tension in the viewer. Common mis-en-scene of the genre include costumes, lighting, makeup, and sound. All of these are used to create a disturbing experience for the viewer. Common editing of the horror genre includes cross-cutting, reaction shots, and jump cuts. These are used to disorient the viewer and increase eerieness. Elements of the genre include jump scares, suspense, gore, or things that are just graphic. I don't enjoy the genre too much, but the elements I do like are the feelings of disturbance they can instill. Elements of the genre I don't like is pretty much everything else, a lot of the elements feel too cliche in the film.

Genre Research blog

On this Power Point I researched the different aspects of the drama genre. I first researched famous films of the genre to have a general idea of what it looks like. I then tried to find sources that had information on the different elements of the genre. It was somewhat annoying because I had to distinguish between plays and movies when researching the genre. For example when I researched common lighting of the genre most of the sources I found talked about the stage lightning of a play. Also, when I researched the elements of the genre it directed me towards Aristotle and his elements of genre. I thought the elements were actually quite fitting for film drama too so I used it. Most of the information was based off of what I already knew of the genre.

Narrowing down my choices

The pitches I think I'm going to narrow it down to are my first and second pitch. These pitches have the most grounds. They are also what I picture in my head the most as working. The first pitch is what I thought of first so it interests me the most. However once I consider the second pitch I think it interests me just as well. The first pitch I think would be easier to do. The only difficult part about it would be coming up with witty dialogue. The second part would be easier because there is no dialogue. However, I would have to go to a lot of different locations. Both pitches would be fun to produce.
Pitch 1 is a good pitch because it involves character dialogue to go with the scene. It will also be cool to see how I can incorporate the credits into the scene. I think it should be easier to make. However, since we're driving in a car it will decrease our manueverability. So it will be harder to move around the camera.
Pitch 2 may excites me a little more. It is a good pitch because it involves a lot of creativity. This creativity is really just all the shots I'd be able to come up with. I think doing pitch 2 would be playing it safe. This is because I would be the solo actor.
The pitch I think I will end up using will be pitch 2. Although, I would be happy to make pitch 1. Since pitch 2 does not involve dialogue and really just involves going to a lot of different locations I think it would be easy to produce. The task for pitch 1 is finding an actor and a camera man. The task also being coming up with dialogue and where the story actually goes. But I still haven't really made up my mind. I'm still on the fence of what I should do. So I may come back later and change which pitch I do.

Start of Final Task

Hello, I am a student for an AICE media studies class. I have already completed two projects in the class. I have enjoyed making both projects and seeing the final products. I enjoy watching films as much as anybody else. However, making the films has been a very fun process for me. Now whenever I watch something online or on T.V. I can recognise the different angles and shots. The whole class has been a very enriching experience for me. It has also been very insightful for me as well. Knowing even a sliver of the film making process is a very enlightening experience. I plan to use all that I've learned on my final project.

Before making anything I was taught the different kinds of shots and angles in a film. After that I was taught different techniques used while editing. Once we finished learning that, we were ready to start our first project. This was obviously after a couple of tutorials on the camera an the software. My first project was to create a commercial for a product. This project introduced me to the procedure it takes to make a film in this class. The main tasks were the filming and editing. After that my next project was to create a music video. The production of the music video is what really polished my skills. I was able to discover ways in which I could incorporate different angles and shots in my film. I was also able to play around with the editing software and figure out what I could do with it.
A pitch is a Hollywood term used to describe an idea where a film is encapsulated in 25 words or less. Usually with one sentence. My first pitch: The film starts with two guys in a car having witty dialogue as we follow them somewhere. One of the guys is older and has more of a monologue. The camera points in different kinds of angles in the car which shows the credits.
My second pitch: The camera follows a guy as he looks for something and he goes to all these different kinds of places and the camera gets a lot of different shots and angles, it ends with him finding that thing.
My third pitch: a simple horror movie progression.
